2017 was a year of firsts for PRMAFW. PRM-Spirit Lake office opened in Spirit Lake with Phoebe’s Place, our attached free clothing store. We partnered with Amy Privitt of Cup of Grace Ministries to set up, train, staff and open this amazing center. Women and children came for help and assistance before we officially opened our doors, showing us the desperate need for the lower Bonner County rural communities and the northern Kootenai area. Now we are reaching outlying areas with advocacy and paralegal assistance thanks to the generosity of Inland NW Community Foundation and Cedar Hills Church with outreach offices in two towns. Our main office opened respite childcare, where a single parent is able to drop off her children for up to 2 hours while she attends her appointments, goes shopping, cleans her house, uses our lab to take online classes, etc. We also extended hours to Lydia’s Place, Priest River’s free clothing store.
PRMAFW produced a faith-based booklet for victims of sexual assault focusing mainly on the devastating effects of DFSA (Drug Facilitated Sexual Assault). It was born of the brave work of a victim, the research of Melissa Ruth from the Idaho Coalition Against SA/DV, and Katie Begalke, a talented graphic artist. (She also designed our new billboard in Sagle). We stepped out in faith to print these booklets and God faithfully encouraged His people and church to send us the funds that were needed. Through the generosity of those who believe in the healing work of this booklet, we now have enough funds to produce a faith-based domestic violent booklet, due for publication next year. These are now available in hospitals, doctor offices, pregnancy centers, businesses and churches throughout North Idaho and Spokane, Wa.
PRMAFW continues to provide excellent services to those effected by violence in our communities, businesses, homes and schools. We continue to provide emergency services and shelter, long-term support, childcare, education, counseling, paralegal assistance, advocacy, transportation and court accompaniment. We are blessed by the support of our many contributors: Idaho Community Foundation, Idaho Food Bank, The Rotary Club, the Chaplain Corp and many churches and individuals who believe in this mission. We could not operate without the 30+ dedicated volunteers who unselfishly give of themselves each and every day, providing compassion, care and support for families in crisis.
In this holiday time, as we reflect on this past year and look forward to the next, and as we celebrate the birth of our Saviour, we are reminded of Jesus’ words to us; “Whatever you do for the least of these, you do for Me.” Thank you to those who are partnering with us in this work, and to those who may be moved to do so in the year to come.
Be Blessed and Merry Merry Christmas. Priest River Ministries-Advocates for Women
